The usual case is simple. A screen recording with eight seconds of a desktop before the click. A phone clip that keeps rolling after everyone left the room. A drone take with a wobble on launch. Trim video keeps one piece. You set a start, an end, and you write a shorter file. Multi-segment ads and invert sit on Video cutter. Picture edges sit on Video cropper. Install, then trim video on this PC

There is no winget command. The author does not maintain one. Do not paste a made-up package id. Copy this filename:

How to trim video on this PC

  1. Open GitHub Releases, pick LosslessCut-win-x64.7z, extract with 7-Zip, and run LosslessCut.exe.
  2. Drag the file into the player, or press Ctrl+O and choose it from disk. Wait for the preview.
  3. Seek to where the keep range should start. Press I. That is the in point. If you only needed to drop a tail, you can leave in at the beginning.
  4. Seek to where the keep range should end. Press O. That is the out point. If you only needed to drop a lead-in, you can leave out at the end of the file.
  5. Press Export (or E). Confirm. Fast copy writes a new file without re-encoding the rest. Start times may not be frame-exact. That is how a lossless trim works.

Space plays. Arrows nudge. The wheel seeks. Zoom the timeline if I landed a second too early. One segment is enough. A second range belongs on the cutter page if you meant that.

One segment: start, end, or both

Trim video is one keep window. Drop the countdown at the front. Drop the walk-off at the back. Drop both. You still have a single piece when you export. If you need two keep windows with a hole in the middle, that hole is a cutter job with Yin Yang, not a second I/O pair you hope will vanish on this page.

A marker (in with no out) is not a finished trim. Set O. The segments panel should show a range with a duration, not a lone flag. If the duration looks like the whole file, you never moved in or out. Seek again. I at the first useful frame. O at the last useful frame. Play once between those points before you export.

Shift-drag on the segment can slide the window if the keys felt coarse. Typed times work when you already know the clock, for example a meeting that should start at 00:01:12. The point is still one segment.

Fast copy and why the start may not be frame-exact

Lossless trim copies packets. It does not rebuild every frame. That is why a two-hour file can lose its first twenty seconds in a moment. The cost is keyframes. Video is stored as a full picture, then a run of cheaper frames that depend on it. A lossless start often has to begin on a keyframe. If you press I between keyframes, the export may begin a little early so the copy still works.

That is expected. It is how a lossless trim works. If you need an exact frame for a title card, you either accept a few extra frames, or you leave lossless copy and use a tool that re-encodes. This page stays on fast copy. Smart cut exists in the project as experimental if you later want a tighter start. Try default copy first. Watch the first second of the export. If the extra frames are just a still hallway, keep them.

Audio usually follows the same cut. If sound starts a beat before the picture you wanted, that is the same keyframe window. You can nudge I toward the previous keyframe on purpose so picture and voice both include the line you need. Jump-to-keyframe controls help you see those landings.

Open, play, export, keep the source

Drag and drop is the fast open. Ctrl+O is the picker. Both load the same player. You are not uploading. The file never has to leave this PC. Export writes beside the source by default. Keep the original until you have played the short file. Names often include from and to times so you can see which trim is which.

If playback inside the app is rough because the codec is odd, the File menu can make a low-quality helper for preview. The actual trim still runs on the original. That matters for camera formats the built-in player dislikes. You still press I and O on the timeline you see, then Export on the real file.

Rotation, tracks, and remux are optional. For a plain trim video pass you can ignore them. If the result will live on a phone that wants mp4, set the output format before Export and read Mp4 trimmer. If black bars bother you more than the extra seconds, that is Video cropper after or instead.

Working dir unset writes the new file next to the source. Set a folder if the camera card should stay clean. A .llc project file can sit beside the video so the next open still has your in and out. Turn that off in settings if you do not want the extra file. The trash control can send the original to the recycle bin after you have the short file. Play the export first. Do the trash last.

A two-hour lecture that only needed the last twelve minutes is the same path as a twenty second phone clip. Open, I, O, E. Fast copy does not care how long the source is, only that the disk can hold the new file. If Export errors, try Matroska once, then remux, or disable a broken subtitle track and export again. The trim video job is still one segment.

How do I trim video?

Why is the start of a trim video export not frame-exact?

A lossless trim copies from a keyframe. If your in point sits between keyframes, the start can land a little early. That is how a lossless trim works. Re-encoding in another program is the path when you need an exact frame and you accept a quality trade.

Do I need Ctrl+O to trim video?

No. Drag and drop works. Ctrl+O is the file picker if you prefer a dialog. Either open path is fine.
